  The Herdmother

Someone needs to keep the chaos in order!

I became a single mom when my girls were 1 and 4. The choice wasn't easy, but it was the right choice.

I wanted to create a home for my girls where they felt safe and loved, but I never thought I would marry a second time.
The same kind of man had always shown up for me in the past. A hundred walls around their heart and I was only shown a glimpse of themselves. I found myself lonely in those relationships.

I wanted someone who knew what it meant to be a partner. Or if they didn't know what that looked like, at least they too wanted that kind of love. That kind of commitment. Someone willing to put in the hard work and reap the rewards of a strong, healthy marriage. Four years later, I met Mike.

When we first met, the man across from me was so willing to be vulnerable it was intoxicating. I wanted more. We had daughters the same age, and that was so attractive. We would be on this journey together. Little did I know at the time, how many hurdles there are to overcome when blending families!

Jump ahead almost 6 years and we have experienced our share of heartache and joy. Marriage takes work and you have to be willing to let go of your ego and compromise. Even when you're as stubborn as I can be. Learning to step aside and make space for 2 new little girls was hard. What I have learned is a strong, stable marriage is what every blended family needs. When the kids see the parents are always on the same side, it works. If you and your partner are off, the kids feel it. So own your sh*t. Trust me when I say this isn't easy and it takes work.

OurBlendedHerd came to fruition for different reasons for Mike and me. My husband had a desire, a need if you will. And in his desire I saw an opportunity to connect and create with my partner, so why not?

I look forward to sharing what I've learned. The struggles I've had. What it means to me to be a strong role model to 4 pre-teen/teenage girls. And how we manage to keep our girls and ourselves organized!
